C. Eric Lincoln manuscripts, 1950-1993.

The collection consists of published and unpublished manuscripts of C. Eric Lincoln from 1950-1993. Lincoln engaged in writing in one form or another throughout his adult life and this collection documents Lincoln's scholarly and creative work in hundreds of individual works, including essays, speeches, poems, musical compositions, and books. His earliest writings include poetry and short stories he wrote while in high school and college, but the bulk of the material was produced after 1960. Lincoln wrote about the civil rights movement, religion, Christianity, the Black power movement, the Black Muslims, Malcolm X, Elijah Muhammad, Africa, and the evolving condition of Black America. Most of all, however, Lincoln wrote about the Black Church. Having spent more than two decades researching and observing this particular institution, Lincoln produced dozens of essays and gave several speeches discussing the pivotal role the church plays in the lives of African Americans. Also includes material relating to Lincoln's research on on a book he was preparing about Albert Victor Danielson, founder of the Sheraton Hotels.
